Redesigning my companion app for a tablet was a rather simple process. As I had all of my buttons already saved as assets in my Figma project, as well as this I made copies of the text boxes when designing the mobile app. Since the buttons and text were what took me the most time to create, the fact I could simply insert copies into the tablet version saved a lot of time. I had to resize the background image, and while it looks slightly different from the mobile version, it still works. Due to the increased size of the tablet, there were multiple screens that didn’t need to scroll to fit all of the info in, unlike with the phone.
Redesigning the app for web took a lot longer than the tablet redesign. While I could still insert the text boxes and buttons easily, I had to scale the buttons up a lot more than before, and due to the 1920×1080 aspect ratio, I needed to alter the background image, making it wider. However, the wider screens allowed me to fit all of the text on the screens without needing to scroll, which I believe to be more user friendly. Furthermore, I redesigned the main menu screen as I could fit all of the buttons and text from the main game menu screen as well as the 2 DLC main menu screens, into a singular screen. Enhancing the user experience. One of the bigger issues I had when designing a web version, was that a few screens, mainly DLC screens, looked very empty due to them having less information than the main game screens. I contemplated increasing the text size to make the screens look less empty, but I decided against that, as I didn’t want the app to look inconsistent.
